The Healing Power of Consciousness: Trauma Recovery, Transpersonal Psychology, and the Science Behind Spiritual Experiences | ANEW EP 66
In this profound episode of the ANEW Insight Podcast, Dr. Supatra Tovar continues her captivating conversation with holistic trauma therapist Seema Sharma—a leading voice in the field of transpersonal psychology and consciousness studies. This second half of their interview dives deep into the intersection of quantum science, trauma healing, and spiritual experiences, offering groundbreaking insights that challenge the limits of traditional psychology.
Seema unpacks the role of transpersonal research in distinguishing between psychiatric pathology and legitimate spiritual phenomena. She explains how experiences like auditory hallucinations, near-death episodes, and lucid dreaming can often be misunderstood through a clinical lens, but are increasingly recognized by a growing body of consciousness research—including studies now acknowledged by major institutions like Harvard and Johns Hopkins.
Listeners will gain a deeper understanding of how non-local consciousness, energy fields, and somatic therapies can be integrated into trauma recovery to support healing from chronic pain, emotional dysregulation, and even disordered eating. Seema shares her unique therapeutic approach—incorporating Vedic psychology, Ayurvedic traditions, indigenous drumming, nature-based therapy, and Holotropic Breathwork—to help clients reconnect with their authentic self and build self-compassion.
Seema also discusses why the scientific community has historically suppressed transpersonal knowledge due to outdated models and institutional bias—and why this emerging field represents the future of holistic mental health care. She passionately advocates for validating clients’ spiritual experiences as real and healing, rather than pathologizing them, offering examples of clients who have dramatically shifted their health and life outlooks through this work.
This episode is a must-listen for clinicians, researchers, and anyone on a healing journey seeking to explore the science of consciousness, the stigma around spiritual awakening, and how reclaiming your true self can unlock a limitless life.

Welcome back to the ANEW Insight Podcast.
00:00:37:20 - 00:00:40:11
We are back
for the second half of our interview
00:00:40:11 - 00:00:43:17
with holistic trauma therapist
Seema Sharma.
00:00:44:03 - 00:00:47:02
Seema gave us some invaluable insight
into the role
00:00:47:02 - 00:00:50:02
of consciousness in healing trauma.
00:00:50:12 - 00:00:53:00
I cannot wait to pick her brain some more.
00:00:53:00 - 00:00:55:13
Welcome back Seema. Thank you.
00:00:55:13 - 00:00:59:11
So I know that consciousness.
00:00:59:11 - 00:01:02:21
We've talked about this
in the last, section.
00:01:03:15 - 00:01:07:14
I think for some people
it's still pretty abstract.
00:01:08:05 - 00:01:13:08
How do you utilize transpersonal
research itself to guide you?
00:01:14:06 - 00:01:14:20
Yeah.
00:01:14:20 - 00:01:18:11
Transpersonal research has been probably
00:01:18:11 - 00:01:21:16
one of the most exciting things
that I was introduced to.
00:01:23:02 - 00:01:27:07
And there are things that come out
not necessarily in my specialty
00:01:27:07 - 00:01:30:22
or what I've been focusing on, but,
you know, some from my colleagues
00:01:30:22 - 00:01:34:01
and some from my cohort members
and everyone else around me
00:01:34:09 - 00:01:38:07
that broaden my, you know,
perspective of what can truly be.
00:01:39:07 - 00:01:41:13
And so using and
00:01:41:13 - 00:01:44:13
constantly looking at transpersonal research
00:01:45:03 - 00:01:49:00
allows us to know that when a client
comes in and talks about something,
00:01:49:13 - 00:01:54:13
it may not be a pathology,
but an actual experience. And it helps us parse out,
00:01:56:05 - 00:01:59:16
you know what's going on
and what's an actual event for a client.
00:02:00:13 - 00:02:05:12
Compared to what may be a,
you know, a struggle for them related to pathology.
00:02:05:18 - 00:02:09:20
Give them an example of that,
like say I'm assuming
00:02:09:20 - 00:02:14:07
you're saying something like,
hearing a voice perhaps?
00:02:14:12 - 00:02:15:01
Yeah.
00:02:15:01 - 00:02:21:00
I mean, a really common one is I get a lot
of people with schizoaffective disorder.
00:02:21:00 - 00:02:24:08
Which is basically like
they've had a hallucination,
00:02:24:16 - 00:02:26:19
and they're pretty adamant
that this was true.
00:02:26:19 - 00:02:30:00
And this happened and they've been adamant
about it for a long time.
00:02:30:09 - 00:02:34:11
Being diagnosed with
schizoaffective disorder, when in fact
00:02:34:11 - 00:02:40:18
it was a spiritual transcending experience
that was spiritual in nature.
00:02:40:18 - 00:02:41:23
And it doesn't change.
00:02:41:23 - 00:02:46:06
So what we know is looking at that,
we're able to go through
00:02:46:06 - 00:02:50:03
transpersonal research and understand
that that was an actual experience.
00:02:50:10 - 00:02:54:04
And actually discounting that
or actually telling my client
00:02:54:04 - 00:02:57:08
that I don't believe in that, is harm. Yes.
00:02:58:05 - 00:03:01:01
But how can you help them
00:03:01:01 - 00:03:04:10
understand that that was real
and not schizoaffective,
00:03:04:10 - 00:03:07:15
and just tell people exactly
what schizoaffective is.
00:03:07:15 - 00:03:09:21
If they don't know what that is.
00:03:09:21 - 00:03:12:13
Schizoaffective, basically,
they've got a lot of hallucinations
00:03:12:13 - 00:03:15:13
that can be auditory, visual
or disorganized speech.
00:03:15:13 - 00:03:19:13
So they've got one of those in addition
to some oddities
00:03:19:13 - 00:03:22:13
related to like,
you know, like what they're saying.
00:03:23:15 - 00:03:24:11
Sometimes it can
00:03:24:11 - 00:03:27:15
be like they feel like someone's
putting something in their brain and,
00:03:28:10 - 00:03:31:09
you know, someone's controlling
their brain or something like that.
00:03:31:09 - 00:03:34:01
So something that's really out there.
00:03:34:01 - 00:03:36:08
And I notice that a lot around spiritual experiences.
00:03:36:08 - 00:03:39:23
Another one is like near-death
experiences which is I'm going to use
00:03:39:23 - 00:03:41:15
because it's easier
for me to explain this.
00:03:41:15 - 00:03:43:16
Someone’s gotta have a near-death experience.
00:03:43:16 - 00:03:47:03
We know from transpersonal research
there are five signs
00:03:47:03 - 00:03:48:22
of near-death experiences.
00:03:48:22 - 00:03:54:11
So we can go through our research and
look at the five stages of the near-death experience.
00:03:54:11 - 00:03:55:15
What are they?
00:03:55:15 - 00:03:56:01
Yeah.
00:03:56:01 - 00:03:59:01
It is you know, it's seeing the light.
00:03:59:11 - 00:04:01:19
Meeting someone that they may not know.
00:04:01:19 - 00:04:04:19
Sometimes having a conversation and it varies.
00:04:04:22 - 00:04:08:18
Chris Rowe the greatest research
on the researcher on that,
00:04:08:18 - 00:04:11:18
he done in a lot of research
out of the UK.
00:04:11:22 - 00:04:16:10
He was our psychopathology teacher at CIS
and you know
00:04:16:10 - 00:04:20:01
like there's the five stages
like meaning making and then coming back.
00:04:20:09 - 00:04:22:06
So these are all the stages.
00:04:22:21 - 00:04:24:14
Off of the top, my head.
00:04:24:14 - 00:04:26:02
This is what I'm remembering.
00:04:26:02 - 00:04:29:09
But when someone comes in
and they're deviating from that
00:04:29:09 - 00:04:32:19
and he's done case study
after case study on this.
00:04:32:22 - 00:04:37:08
We know that that may be pathology
as opposed to an experience.
00:04:37:14 - 00:04:40:15
So there are actual assessments
that we have.
00:04:40:15 - 00:04:44:16
There's actual, you know, ways
that we look at various experiences
00:04:44:16 - 00:04:48:04
through research that's been quantified
or, you know, categorized.
00:04:48:04 - 00:04:50:10
So we know like okay this has five stages.
00:04:50:10 - 00:04:53:05
Do they have five stages. Interesting.
00:04:53:05 - 00:04:54:13
But what if it's you know
00:04:54:13 - 00:04:58:10
they're they're having an auditory
or a visual hallucination?
00:04:58:20 - 00:05:01:20
Is there a test that you can do that determines
00:05:01:20 - 00:05:04:19
whether or not that that's true
or if it's,
00:05:05:10 - 00:05:08:13
you know, an aspect of consciousness
that's coming through to them?
00:05:08:19 - 00:05:10:21
Yeah.
I would want to look at other behavior.
00:05:12:01 - 00:05:14:00
Like is this an isolated event?
00:05:14:00 - 00:05:17:12
Is this causing them
suffering in other ways?
00:05:18:02 - 00:05:20:06
Is this putting their life in danger?
00:05:20:06 - 00:05:24:02
If it is then I would actually look
at the diagnosis as maybe being accurate.
00:05:24:02 - 00:05:26:09
As opposed to it not being accurate.
00:05:26:09 - 00:05:29:12
We're not saying that someone's coming in
and they're always inaccurate.
00:05:29:23 - 00:05:32:05
It could be accurate.
00:05:32:05 - 00:05:34:10
But we want to be able
to parse that through.
00:05:34:10 - 00:05:38:13
And I think that's why
quite a few clients come to us is because
00:05:39:09 - 00:05:42:09
they've had an experience and
they don't feel like they can go anywhere else.
00:05:42:14 - 00:05:44:18
Wow. That that is fascinating.
00:05:44:18 - 00:05:49:05
And if it is a part of consciousness
00:05:49:05 - 00:05:52:05
and it isn't a hallucination,
00:05:52:06 - 00:05:54:23
what do you see happen with the client?
00:05:54:23 - 00:05:59:22
I think just validating
that it is an experience and allowing
00:05:59:22 - 00:06:03:16
that validating that, that they have
this experience is so healing.
00:06:04:09 - 00:06:06:13
The very act of validating that for them,
00:06:07:16 - 00:06:10:21
they are incredibly moved and changed.
00:06:11:10 - 00:06:15:00
You know, I see rapid change in people
because you validate an experience
00:06:15:00 - 00:06:15:23
that they’ve had.
00:06:15:23 - 00:06:18:21
Right. Where they may have had a history
of being told
00:06:18:21 - 00:06:21:21
that they're just crazy.
00:06:22:00 - 00:06:24:05
There may actually be having
00:06:24:05 - 00:06:28:17
a real connected experience
with consciousness and,
00:06:28:17 - 00:06:31:15
and give us a picture of that.
00:06:31:15 - 00:06:35:02
Like, why would they be hearing a voice?
00:06:35:23 - 00:06:36:10
Yeah.
00:06:36:10 - 00:06:41:17
Actually, it's funny that, you know, 81% of humans
00:06:41:17 - 00:06:46:11
on this planet will have some sort of
we call it the PSI experience, P-S-I
00:06:46:11 - 00:06:49:03
experience, which is a experience
00:06:49:03 - 00:06:52:02
that can't be explained
by material science.
00:06:52:02 - 00:06:54:00
Which is mass, matter.
00:06:54:00 - 00:06:57:00
That sort of things. Anything tangible.
00:06:57:00 - 00:06:58:19
This is the nonphysical.
00:06:58:19 - 00:07:01:20
So 81, 81% of humans
00:07:01:20 - 00:07:04:19
on this planet will have
some sort of experience like that.
00:07:04:20 - 00:07:08:12
So the probability of that being accurate
is huge.
00:07:08:13 - 00:07:10:21
So leaving space for that is key.
00:07:12:02 - 00:07:12:19
And you
00:07:12:19 - 00:07:17:23
know allowing our clients to define
what that is for them is also valuable
00:07:18:06 - 00:07:21:01
because it, it all comes down to their
meaning and purpose.
00:07:21:01 - 00:07:23:02
That that's created for them. Right.
00:07:23:02 - 00:07:30:00
Why do you think that there is
so much stigma with this kind of work?
00:07:30:10 - 00:07:33:15
I mean you would hear,
oh, that's woo woo talk or
00:07:34:00 - 00:07:38:07
you know,
that's way out there and it's squashed.
00:07:38:08 - 00:07:40:03
I mean, I think you saw this
00:07:40:03 - 00:07:43:06
with your, you know, work in the fortune
500 companies.
00:07:43:16 - 00:07:47:17
Kind of a categorical denial of anything
00:07:47:17 - 00:07:50:17
that's not tangible or real.
00:07:51:04 - 00:07:52:20
Why is that?
00:07:52:20 - 00:07:56:11
I think you know, what's happened
scientifically is
00:07:56:11 - 00:08:00:21
our books haven't been updated
with newer versions of science.
00:08:02:09 - 00:08:04:23
For example, quantum theory. Yes.
00:08:04:23 - 00:08:07:10
Let's talk about that.
So interesting. Yeah.
00:08:07:10 - 00:08:12:06
So quantum entanglement, quantum theory,
everything by Nikola Tesla.
00:08:12:06 - 00:08:13:14
Einstein.
00:08:13:14 - 00:08:17:22
Our books still don't reflect the sciences
that came out during that era.
00:08:18:19 - 00:08:22:02
You know, the,
you know, time space continuum.
00:08:22:10 - 00:08:26:15
And all of those pieces
have been proven by science.
00:08:27:12 - 00:08:30:03
We do know
that there is quantum entanglement.
00:08:30:03 - 00:08:34:19
That means one molecule is connected
as a fabric to another.
00:08:35:13 - 00:08:38:22
That is the science behind
what we think is woo woo.
00:08:38:22 - 00:08:41:08
But it isn't taught in our schools.
00:08:41:08 - 00:08:44:00
It isn’t taught to psychologists.
00:08:45:06 - 00:08:47:15
Most people don't even learn about that.
00:08:47:15 - 00:08:49:00
Because it goes
00:08:49:00 - 00:08:52:20
against some of the foundational things
that we know like systems theory.
00:08:52:20 - 00:08:56:05
And these organizations that have created
00:08:56:14 - 00:09:00:18
you know
systems and approaches, would be negated
00:09:01:01 - 00:09:04:00
if we brought in electromagnetic theory.
00:09:04:00 - 00:09:05:22
And. How so?
00:09:05:22 - 00:09:09:21
Well for example, like systems theory
recognized that if you were to recognize
00:09:09:21 - 00:09:13:20
quantum theory you would have to
not recognize non-local consciousness.
00:09:14:19 - 00:09:18:20
You would have to recognize
that people like psychokinesis.
00:09:18:20 - 00:09:22:05
The movement of things with our minds. Not necessarily
00:09:22:21 - 00:09:28:00
huge like the media portrays, but there is
the ability to do that in a vacuum.
00:09:28:18 - 00:09:30:23
By a little, a little movement.
00:09:30:23 - 00:09:33:19
And they've shown that a couple of times.
00:09:33:19 - 00:09:38:01
You would also have to recognize channels
and mediums.
00:09:38:03 - 00:09:42:07
And all of those folks that have been pushed out
to the outskirts.
00:09:42:07 - 00:09:44:08
Because there is science that supports them.
00:09:44:21 - 00:09:48:05
And that would question
who we are as humans on this planet.
00:09:49:19 - 00:09:50:14
But I
00:09:50:14 - 00:09:54:17
mean if it's been proven
and you know it is
00:09:54:17 - 00:09:57:17
this emergent emerging field
00:09:58:12 - 00:10:01:13
I get that there is backlash.
00:10:01:13 - 00:10:03:23
But why would be quashed?
00:10:03:23 - 00:10:07:18
What is so threatening
about this information?
00:10:08:01 - 00:10:11:22
That is the biggest conversation
to be had.
00:10:12:07 - 00:10:15:06
Because what we're now saying is,
00:10:15:18 - 00:10:19:03
you know, like non-local consciousness
also means the brain
00:10:19:03 - 00:10:23:09
is not responsible for personality,
for thoughts, for emotions.
00:10:23:17 - 00:10:26:17
The entire field of psychology
00:10:26:20 - 00:10:30:15
would be questioned in various ways
like cognitive behavior therapy.
00:10:30:15 - 00:10:34:01
Would be threatened
because we, we now would be talking about
00:10:34:01 - 00:10:37:04
like that's not necessarily
created by the brain.
00:10:37:20 - 00:10:41:20
A great book is is Consciousness Primary
that talks about this.
00:10:41:22 - 00:10:46:03
It talks about how we are so focused
00:10:46:03 - 00:10:50:00
on the brain when we scientifically know
that the brain doesn't create it all.
00:10:50:04 - 00:10:55:01
So for us to then open the door
to all of these other ways of thinking
00:10:55:18 - 00:11:00:04
is quashed for certain reasons
because of capitalistic systems
00:11:00:04 - 00:11:03:04
that fund various organizations.
00:11:03:20 - 00:11:05:06
It's a long conversation.
00:11:05:06 - 00:11:08:05
I am happy to say the APA
00:11:08:12 - 00:11:11:16
has started
publishing transpersonal research.
00:11:13:06 - 00:11:15:18
By Cardena, which was the big one.
00:11:15:18 - 00:11:18:14
A lot of this research is self-funded.
00:11:18:14 - 00:11:22:05
We don't have grants
like the other organizations
00:11:22:05 - 00:11:24:22
and the other forms of research
that are out there.
00:11:24:22 - 00:11:28:18
We need to use our own money
to fund our own research.
00:11:28:20 - 00:11:32:09
Wow. In order for things to be published
and that's the way it's been done
00:11:32:15 - 00:11:37:02
for a while now because of the systems in place
00:11:37:02 - 00:11:41:01
that don't allow these, these, these,
these pieces of research to be published.
00:11:41:01 - 00:11:44:01
But is there any chance for integration?
00:11:44:07 - 00:11:47:20
Because I mean there's wonderful things
about CBT.
00:11:48:04 - 00:11:48:13
Yeah.
00:11:48:13 - 00:11:52:22
And how can it be integrated
with transpersonal psychology?
00:11:52:22 - 00:11:57:02
It totally could, I think that we have to work
in an integrative fashion.
00:11:57:02 - 00:11:59:04
That is the holistic way of working.
00:11:59:04 - 00:12:05:08
Is everything has to be okay because
humans are diverse dynamic creatures.
00:12:05:10 - 00:12:09:15
And so what works one day
may need to shift another day.
00:12:09:16 - 00:12:10:12
Yeah.
00:12:10:12 - 00:12:13:05
And so for us to almost pivot
00:12:13:05 - 00:12:16:23
for whatever works for my client
requires there be integration.
00:12:17:12 - 00:12:18:17
I do hope for change.
00:12:18:17 - 00:12:23:22
I hope for change for my kids
generation as well as future researchers on this.
00:12:23:22 - 00:12:27:08
I hope for change by honestly, the APA.
00:12:27:08 - 00:12:31:09
In terms of like allowing more research
to be funded and included.
00:12:31:09 - 00:12:33:22
In their organization.
00:12:33:22 - 00:12:38:02
As well as funding for these big
universities that are doing it themselves.
00:12:38:21 - 00:12:41:04
Oh I think that would be amazing.
00:12:41:04 - 00:12:46:18
So different cultures
approach trauma and healing differently. Yeah.
00:12:46:18 - 00:12:50:04
How does cultural understanding
or sensitivity
00:12:50:04 - 00:12:53:04
play a role in your therapy approach?
00:12:53:13 - 00:12:54:07
Yeah.
00:12:54:07 - 00:12:58:19
So I am actually very fortunate
that I went to the school
00:12:58:19 - 00:13:05:06
I did because our basis of understanding
comes from global communities.
00:13:05:19 - 00:13:09:04
And so we did a lot of work looking at shamans
00:13:09:04 - 00:13:13:00
and how do shamans work,
and looked at swamis
00:13:13:00 - 00:13:16:18
and looked at Asian communities
and all of these various communities.
00:13:16:18 - 00:13:21:05
And how did healing occur
and what does healing look like there.
00:13:21:12 - 00:13:26:00
In terms of understanding, I'm now
a very eclectic I use indigenous drumming,
00:13:26:15 - 00:13:29:21
because it really activates
that limbic system we talked about earlier.
00:13:29:21 - 00:13:32:21
I use various things from all over.
00:13:33:20 - 00:13:36:06
And so I'm very fortunate to know that.
00:13:36:06 - 00:13:40:00
But being culturally diverse
00:13:40:00 - 00:13:44:22
is such a key part about me personally,
but also me professionally.
00:13:45:01 - 00:13:48:09
And it really has been really helpful
for my clients
00:13:48:19 - 00:13:51:16
because you're able to pull things
00:13:51:16 - 00:13:55:12
that are not only localized
to the United States,
00:13:55:12 - 00:13:59:19
but you’re able to pull things that maybe happen
in indigenous communities.
00:13:59:19 - 00:14:03:04
One is a really great
one is the use of nature.
00:14:03:04 - 00:14:07:14
Lying on a bed of grass for someone
that is struggling with eating disorders.
00:14:07:14 - 00:14:11:02
Has been shown to be extremely effective.
00:14:11:07 - 00:14:17:04
And how Mother Nature can
almost work with body based situations.
00:14:17:04 - 00:14:18:07
Talk about that a little more.
00:14:18:07 - 00:14:21:05
That's like a particular interest of mine.
00:14:21:05 - 00:14:25:04
What have you seen in your work
with people that struggle with body
00:14:25:04 - 00:14:26:19
image as well.
00:14:26:19 - 00:14:29:09
Give me a picture
of what you do to help them.
00:14:29:09 - 00:14:29:21
Yeah.
00:14:29:21 - 00:14:33:23
I think that, you know, the consciousness
piece and the breath-work are huge.
00:14:33:23 - 00:14:37:06
Because you elevate yourself beyond the body.
00:14:37:17 - 00:14:41:10
And once you elevate yourself
beyond the body which is what happens
00:14:41:10 - 00:14:44:20
in a Holotropic Breathwork
you know like session.
00:14:45:04 - 00:14:48:04
You find incredible meaning self-worth.
00:14:48:17 - 00:14:51:07
And you come back to this reality
00:14:51:07 - 00:14:54:15
and plane with a better understanding
of who you are.
00:14:55:00 - 00:14:58:20
And a lot of people let go of things
that they've been holding on to.
00:14:59:05 - 00:15:00:17
Body is one of them.
00:15:00:17 - 00:15:05:00
And we also do you know like when we
start working with like consciousness
00:15:05:10 - 00:15:08:20
there is consciousness in
plants and they have a mind.
00:15:08:20 - 00:15:10:19
And that’s the newest research right now.
00:15:10:19 - 00:15:13:08
They have
their own sense of consciousness.
00:15:13:08 - 00:15:14:17
Like animals.
00:15:14:17 - 00:15:19:15
And so like there is something going on
which, where the research needs to be funded.
00:15:19:17 - 00:15:21:10
Around what is that
00:15:21:10 - 00:15:23:19
that's helping with body based issues.
00:15:23:19 - 00:15:27:15
Because we know that you know
when we're out there and we immerse
00:15:27:15 - 00:15:32:01
ourselves in nature, we're seeing changes
when it comes to body. Wow.
00:15:32:08 - 00:15:36:02
So you would give them like an exercise
00:15:36:03 - 00:15:39:03
or homework exercise to go out in nature.
00:15:39:03 - 00:15:41:06
Lie down in a bed of grass.
00:15:41:06 - 00:15:45:23
Try to in a sense kind of detach
00:15:46:11 - 00:15:51:05
or leave the body for a moment
or join consciousness.
00:15:51:16 - 00:15:56:15
No. In order to be, like,
healed by Mother Nature herself,
00:15:57:10 - 00:15:59:21
the act of, you know, either gardening
00:15:59:21 - 00:16:03:00
or whatever it is, there is a healing
00:16:04:00 - 00:16:06:19
that happens when they're immersed
in nature.
00:16:06:19 - 00:16:12:00
Holotropic Breathwork is that transcending
experience that allows them to
00:16:13:04 - 00:16:15:02
leave their conscious
00:16:15:02 - 00:16:18:02
mind and move into their higher self mind.
00:16:18:03 - 00:16:21:08
And really pull from that non-local
consciousness.
00:16:21:14 - 00:16:24:00
That's beautiful. I love that.
00:16:24:00 - 00:16:27:10
Now consciousness requires developing
00:16:27:10 - 00:16:30:18
a compassionate relationship
with yourself.
00:16:31:07 - 00:16:35:01
Why is it so critical in trauma recovery?
00:16:35:06 - 00:16:39:06
And how do you help clients
cultivate their own self-compassion?
00:16:40:01 - 00:16:40:14
Yeah.
00:16:40:14 - 00:16:44:23
I think that all of these
transpersonal activities I have found
00:16:46:01 - 00:16:49:01
helps clients
fall in love with themselves.
00:16:49:08 - 00:16:52:22
And so self-compassion
becomes a natural byproduct of that.
00:16:53:02 - 00:16:56:19
And so what's happening
is as they’re developing
00:16:56:19 - 00:17:00:04
a deeper understanding of who they are authentically.
00:17:01:06 - 00:17:03:11
They are falling in love with themselves
00:17:03:11 - 00:17:06:11
and they're able to stay aligned
to their true self.
00:17:06:17 - 00:17:10:06
I think the biggest fear in the world
is to be 100% authentic.
00:17:11:08 - 00:17:14:05
Because you operate in a world
that doesn't allow us to be.
00:17:14:05 - 00:17:19:12
But if we're able to understand
and fall in love with that self,
00:17:19:12 - 00:17:22:19
it's easier to almost operate from,
from that place.
00:17:23:01 - 00:17:24:04
Right.
00:17:24:04 - 00:17:27:19
You said we live in a world
that doesn't allow us to be.
00:17:28:14 - 00:17:30:13
Why is that? Yeah.
00:17:30:13 - 00:17:35:18
I mean, in trauma, for example, is
I call it the clothing that is trauma.
00:17:35:19 - 00:17:38:10
Trauma clothing and covers the self.
00:17:38:10 - 00:17:41:10
I put this on and I'll wear this role.
00:17:41:15 - 00:17:44:20
I will put this on and smile
and show up in a workplace.
00:17:45:06 - 00:17:48:20
I'll put this on
and you know do this for this person.
00:17:49:17 - 00:17:52:05
Or act this way and this way.
00:17:52:05 - 00:17:53:23
You know like and I in this instance.
00:17:53:23 - 00:17:59:10
So these are all clothing or pieces
that we've adapted for survival.
00:17:59:11 - 00:18:01:02
Those are all survival tactics.
00:18:01:17 - 00:18:04:10
And the act of almost removing that
00:18:04:10 - 00:18:08:10
and not operating from a people
pleasing standpoint, for example,
00:18:09:01 - 00:18:12:17
is scary for some
because they've never been able to do so.
00:18:12:19 - 00:18:17:21
And to show up authentically
you is very scary for a lot of people.
00:18:17:21 - 00:18:21:11
I think that's a quote from Carl
Jung that I’m pulling from, but like
00:18:21:11 - 00:18:26:14
that’s what he talks about, like being authentic
and genuine is the scariest thing.
00:18:27:11 - 00:18:32:04
When you help people
become more of their authentic self,
00:18:32:04 - 00:18:35:08
what do they experience
when they go out into the world
00:18:35:08 - 00:18:40:03
and operate from that as opposed
to putting on their trauma clothing?
00:18:40:14 - 00:18:42:07
Yeah. Limitlessness.
00:18:42:07 - 00:18:46:05
That's what the biggest thing
I see in my clients experience. Wow.
00:18:46:05 - 00:18:47:18
They can do anything.
00:18:48:00 - 00:18:50:07
The world is
00:18:50:07 - 00:18:53:23
like the world is a place of joy
for the first time.
00:18:54:08 - 00:18:56:23
They can create the life they want
00:18:57:14 - 00:19:00:03
and almost live the life they want.
00:19:00:03 - 00:19:05:03
And that alignment to who they are,
not just in the future
00:19:05:03 - 00:19:07:18
but in the current time.
00:19:07:18 - 00:19:10:08
Helps them just move forward. Wow.
00:19:10:08 - 00:19:13:08
Now going back to cultural practices.
00:19:13:14 - 00:19:17:20
Was there anything that you drew from
from your own cultural heritage?
00:19:18:00 - 00:19:20:04
Yeah. I am East Indian.
00:19:20:04 - 00:19:23:09
So a South Indian, South
Asian, East Indian.
00:19:24:10 - 00:19:27:03
And coming from India,
00:19:27:03 - 00:19:30:05
I bring a lot from, Vedic psychology.
00:19:30:20 - 00:19:34:06
So Vedic psychology
is really about the five elements.
00:19:34:07 - 00:19:36:02
And the five senses.
00:19:36:02 - 00:19:38:18
And so a lot of things I do with for
my clients is first
00:19:38:18 - 00:19:40:04
focus on the five senses.
00:19:40:04 - 00:19:43:15
What are the five senses
saying to them in your household?
00:19:44:00 - 00:19:47:02
Is there a place for them
to somatically relax and exhale?
00:19:47:03 - 00:19:52:15
How do they create these places
or these areas in their home
00:19:53:05 - 00:19:56:12
where they can almost like exhale
for the first time
00:19:56:12 - 00:19:59:21
and really playing off the five senses
because those are bottom up
00:20:00:08 - 00:20:05:06
ways, which is the way we're kind of like
feeling the vibe of a room.
00:20:05:06 - 00:20:08:10
It’s like creating the vibe of a certain space.
00:20:08:10 - 00:20:12:15
That allows you to be you,
and that comes from Ayurvedic psychology.
00:20:12:15 - 00:20:14:10
Vedic psychology.
00:20:14:10 - 00:20:16:00
So I’ve pulled from that.
00:20:16:00 - 00:20:20:14
I’ve pulled the drumming, is actually a global concept
00:20:20:14 - 00:20:25:17
but the Nagada drum is specifically Indian.
So I pull from that.
00:20:26:03 - 00:20:28:15
And then of course
the chakra system and understanding
00:20:28:15 - 00:20:32:11
that fortunately it's
aligned with somatic therapy.
00:20:32:11 - 00:20:35:13
And so we now know
that those energy centers are the same
00:20:35:21 - 00:20:38:17
as what Peter Levine teaches.
00:20:38:17 - 00:20:44:05
And so that's just been there's been
a lot of synchronicity between my culture,
00:20:45:11 - 00:20:48:02
culture of origin and the work that I’m doing.
00:20:48:02 - 00:20:50:09
Can you give people
a quick picture of that?
00:20:50:09 - 00:20:53:09
Because I'm sure if they heard chakras,
they were like, what the heck?
00:20:53:13 - 00:20:56:10
But it's it's really true
what she's saying.
00:20:56:10 - 00:20:59:09
There is a lot of evidence to show that
00:20:59:09 - 00:21:03:06
chakras are actually a real thing,
but tell people what that is.
00:21:03:08 - 00:21:05:22
Yeah. So we've got these energy centers
in our body.
00:21:05:22 - 00:21:08:00
I think there's seven of them.
00:21:08:00 - 00:21:11:11
I'll just focus on like
if my client is somatically processing
00:21:11:11 - 00:21:14:17
something and it's related to the heart chakra,
00:21:14:17 - 00:21:17:18
which is right here
in the middle of our chest, it's usually
00:21:17:18 - 00:21:20:18
neurologically wired
to the emotion of sadness or grief.
00:21:21:04 - 00:21:25:10
And so we start asking like I'm curious
if you're feeling any sadness or grief?
00:21:25:23 - 00:21:28:06
Or the gut is really anger and fear.
00:21:28:17 - 00:21:33:10
And so we know which emotional centers
neurologically wired to various organs.
00:21:33:10 - 00:21:36:10
As well as different energy centers in our body.
00:21:36:10 - 00:21:39:16
And the gut is your sense of self.
00:21:39:16 - 00:21:41:03
Correct. Okay.
00:21:41:03 - 00:21:45:03
What about the, you know, energy center
of the reproductive organs?
00:21:45:03 - 00:21:46:12
What do you see?
00:21:46:12 - 00:21:50:11
Because there's a lot of medical intuitive’s
that actually work with chakras.
00:21:50:11 - 00:21:55:12
To help diagnose what's going on
with people just by reading their energy.
00:21:55:23 - 00:21:58:15
But tell us about the reproductive chakra.
00:21:58:15 - 00:22:04:14
The reproductive chakra is difficult,
honestly, because of trauma.
00:22:05:00 - 00:22:07:16
And so it could be various things.
00:22:07:16 - 00:22:10:16
So that's why I didn’t speak to that. It could be,
00:22:11:13 - 00:22:12:18
it could have a narrative.
00:22:12:18 - 00:22:15:04
So that's a really powerful chakra.
00:22:15:04 - 00:22:19:21
Because it's, the chakra related to sexual abuse
at times.
00:22:19:21 - 00:22:22:00
Other things for my clients.
00:22:22:00 - 00:22:25:02
And so that's why I allow my client
to define.
00:22:25:20 - 00:22:29:14
That's one there is a lot of curiosity,
but I would have a lot of curiosity
00:22:29:14 - 00:22:32:16
related to, I would start asking about,
00:22:33:05 - 00:22:35:16
you know, reproductive stuff,
00:22:35:16 - 00:22:39:22
you know, and other organs
that sit there in addition to emotions.
00:22:41:02 - 00:22:43:01
Emotions related to trauma.
00:22:43:01 - 00:22:46:01
Well, all of this is so fascinating.
00:22:46:12 - 00:22:47:23
I would love to know,
00:22:47:23 - 00:22:50:09
and I think that you are a thought
leader in this.
00:22:50:09 - 00:22:52:07
You're a thought
leader in trauma therapy.
00:22:52:07 - 00:22:56:04
Where do you see the field of trauma
healing and consciousness work
00:22:56:11 - 00:22:58:13
evolving over the next decade?
00:22:59:10 - 00:23:03:08
Yeah, I do know
there's quite a bit of funding coming in.
00:23:03:17 - 00:23:04:11
Self funded.
00:23:04:11 - 00:23:08:08
But there are a lot, far more institutions
on board,
00:23:08:08 - 00:23:12:02
such as Harvard's gotten on board
with consciousness science recently, and
00:23:12:02 - 00:23:17:08
Johns Hopkins. So there's a lot of schools
getting on board with the the research.
00:23:17:18 - 00:23:20:09
I'm hoping that research gets out there.
00:23:20:09 - 00:23:23:08
I hope there's collaborations because
00:23:23:08 - 00:23:26:10
transpersonal and consciousness
are interdisciplinary.
00:23:26:10 - 00:23:30:08
We've got to understand chemistry, biology
and physics to understand transpersonal.
00:23:30:17 - 00:23:35:14
So like really the merging of all of
these fields together as opposed to being
00:23:36:13 - 00:23:37:17
containered.
00:23:37:17 - 00:23:39:09
Has to happen.
00:23:39:09 - 00:23:42:03
And I'm hoping in the next ten years
we start seeing that movement,
00:23:42:03 - 00:23:43:14
That’d be wonderful.
00:23:43:14 - 00:23:46:08
Well before we open it up for questions
from the audience,
00:23:46:08 - 00:23:51:04
I would love to know
how people can find you and work with you
00:23:51:04 - 00:23:53:19
if their interested
in this type of therapy.
00:23:53:19 - 00:23:55:07
Yeah, they can reach me at
00:23:55:07 - 00:24:00:04
Holistic Trauma Therapy.com
or the Consciousness Center.com.
00:24:00:08 - 00:24:03:15
Wonderful.
Are you on any socials as well?
00:24:03:16 - 00:24:04:19
They can follow you.
00:24:04:19 - 00:24:05:07
Yeah.
00:24:05:07 - 00:24:10:13
I am, I'm on Instagram
at The Holistic Trauma Therapist.
00:24:10:15 - 00:24:13:21
You can find me on Facebook
without URL as well.
00:24:14:10 - 00:24:18:06
That handle, and Pinterest
as well as The Trauma Therapist.
00:24:18:09 - 00:24:19:15
Lovely.
00:24:19:15 - 00:24:22:23
All right, well, we would love to open it
up for some questions.
00:24:23:05 - 00:24:25:12
It looks like we have one. Yay!
00:24:25:12 - 00:24:26:12
So I have
00:24:26:12 - 00:24:29:12
like, a, I guess, a three partner for you.
00:24:29:20 - 00:24:34:02
So my first question is like,
how what kind of,
00:24:34:08 - 00:24:39:06
health issues have you seen like
reversed using this type of,
00:24:40:06 - 00:24:42:09
therapy and then,
00:24:42:09 - 00:24:45:19
like, how
long did it take to see like a reversal?
00:24:46:12 - 00:24:46:23
And then my.
00:24:46:23 - 00:24:47:18
And then my other question
00:24:47:18 - 00:24:52:00
was like, if you can comment on, lucid
dreaming or like,
00:24:52:00 - 00:24:55:07
people will talk about, like,
sleepwalking in their sleep.
00:24:56:18 - 00:24:58:09
Thank you. Okay.
00:24:58:09 - 00:24:59:22
So I'm, I hope I remember this.
00:24:59:22 - 00:25:03:12
The first part was,
What reversal have I seen?
00:25:04:06 - 00:25:06:15
One of the
00:25:06:15 - 00:25:09:15
really popular ones is chronic pain.
00:25:09:20 - 00:25:13:14
Chronic pain
that isn't explained by a medical issue.
00:25:14:15 - 00:25:18:20
And so using the body
and using consciousness
00:25:19:07 - 00:25:22:17
really helps move energy
that may be trapped there.
00:25:22:20 - 00:25:25:17
And allows that to move forward.
00:25:25:17 - 00:25:30:10
I've seen that quite a bit
in like seniors and seniors coming in
00:25:30:10 - 00:25:35:17
and a lot of doctors sending folks
over to me around chronic pain especially.
00:25:36:08 - 00:25:37:20
So that's a great example.
00:25:37:20 - 00:25:40:11
And how, how is it released?
00:25:40:11 - 00:25:42:18
That somatic exercise, that we talked about,
00:25:42:18 - 00:25:46:05
allowing for emotion to be expressed
that may be held in the body.
00:25:46:05 - 00:25:48:02
And that's really what we're seeing
00:25:48:02 - 00:25:52:06
what chronic pain is, is it's something held,
is there's energy
00:25:52:06 - 00:25:53:17
being held in the body there.
00:25:53:17 - 00:25:58:00
Bringing awareness that and allowing that
to move through moves
00:25:58:01 - 00:26:00:11
the pain through to. Interesting.
00:26:00:11 - 00:26:02:09
That's fascinating.
00:26:02:09 - 00:26:02:16
Okay.
00:26:02:16 - 00:26:05:15
So she asks you too about lucid dreaming
and so what the heck.
00:26:05:15 - 00:26:06:08
What is that?
00:26:06:08 - 00:26:07:22
And is that a real thing?
00:26:07:22 - 00:26:09:19
Yeah. Lucid dreaming.
00:26:09:19 - 00:26:14:02
I am not in dream analysis,
but yes, it is a thing.
00:26:14:23 - 00:26:17:17
There are people that even do
00:26:17:17 - 00:26:20:17
a lot of studies around dreaming.
00:26:20:17 - 00:26:23:04
There's different ways.
There's even astral projection,
00:26:23:04 - 00:26:26:12
and there's a lot of different ways
that people do dreaming.
00:26:26:12 - 00:26:29:19
But dreamings are, dreaming is a real thing.
00:26:29:20 - 00:26:32:16
I, I will be completely honest.
00:26:32:16 - 00:26:34:23
I'm not a professional in the dream world.
00:26:34:23 - 00:26:37:15
But definitely is a real thing.
00:26:37:15 - 00:26:39:16
And there's a lot of data out there.
00:26:39:16 - 00:26:41:05
And, you know, dream
00:26:41:05 - 00:26:45:06
analysis is definitely a real thing,
if that's something you're interested in.
00:26:45:06 - 00:26:47:23
And explain to people who don't understand
what that
00:26:47:23 - 00:26:50:23
is, what lucid dreaming is.
00:26:50:23 - 00:26:51:14
Yeah.
00:26:51:14 - 00:26:56:18
Lucid dreaming is like a dream
that feels like it's almost real
00:26:57:20 - 00:27:01:09
and it's happening while you are awake.
00:27:02:13 - 00:27:05:13
And, I think it's something that's.
00:27:06:23 - 00:27:07:10
Yeah.
00:27:07:10 - 00:27:09:05
Yeah. Like, you feel like.
00:27:09:05 - 00:27:12:08
You feel like you're astral projecting, like you’re walking
00:27:12:08 - 00:27:15:08
Yes. You're astral projecting
or walking somewhere.
00:27:15:18 - 00:27:16:00
Yeah.
00:27:16:00 - 00:27:19:03
There's even people who astral project
in a different location.
00:27:19:23 - 00:27:23:09
So they will protect themselves
and people will witness them there.
00:27:24:03 - 00:27:27:03
So there is that aspect of that as well.
00:27:27:07 - 00:27:29:20
Definitely not a professional
in that stuff.
00:27:29:20 - 00:27:33:14
Whoa.
But there's definitely a field for that, so.
00:27:33:14 - 00:27:38:02
Now you in the beginning,
the first section, you mentioned
00:27:38:08 - 00:27:44:15
people who work for the government
who are watching other countries.
00:27:45:15 - 00:27:47:13
How are they doing this?
00:27:47:13 - 00:27:50:05
Their remote viewers are basically,
00:27:50:05 - 00:27:53:05
psychics and,
00:27:53:13 - 00:27:54:23
another great organization
00:27:54:23 - 00:27:57:23
is the Arthur
Findlay College in the United Kingdom.
00:27:58:09 - 00:28:02:19
And those teachers that teach there, also talk
00:28:02:19 - 00:28:05:19
about being consultants to the Vatican
00:28:05:19 - 00:28:08:19
and being consultants to the royal family.
00:28:09:01 - 00:28:12:05
And so, like, this has been going on
for a very long time.
00:28:12:17 - 00:28:16:03
We just have the population
are just not aware of it. Wow.
00:28:16:14 - 00:28:19:15
The fact that it's become
declassified is fascinating now.
00:28:19:23 - 00:28:22:07
How can people
go and find that information?
00:28:23:09 - 00:28:26:07
It was sent to me by a professor.
00:28:26:07 - 00:28:29:05
But I am sure it's out there.
00:28:29:05 - 00:28:33:00
I would definitely look at your databases
or your school databases
00:28:33:00 - 00:28:36:02
out there,
and try to look for that information.
00:28:36:09 - 00:28:39:03
There is definitely transpersonal research
out there.
00:28:39:03 - 00:28:42:08
And a lot of that quotes,
the government research,
00:28:42:17 - 00:28:45:14
but it's definitely out there.
00:28:45:14 - 00:28:48:00
For people to research, depending
on the topic they want to look at.
00:28:48:05 - 00:28:51:05
As Mulder would say,
the truth is out there.
00:28:51:16 - 00:28:54:18
You guys, this is so fascinating to me.
00:28:54:18 - 00:28:59:10
And I am so glad that you've been able to
come on this podcast
00:28:59:19 - 00:29:02:15
and illuminate
some of this really interesting
00:29:02:15 - 00:29:05:19
research that's coming out,
and to know that you're doing this
00:29:05:19 - 00:29:10:10
and helping people resolve their trauma
through working through
00:29:10:10 - 00:29:14:15
their consciousness
is really groundbreaking and fascinating.
00:29:14:15 - 00:29:17:15
So I hope you guys follow Seema.
